Section 8.13. Nightshift Formula Tuner
WinPicks allows users to tuner multiple formulas over long durations using the NightShiftFormula Tuner. You can put your computer to work tuning formulas while you sleep, all with a few clicks of the mouse button.
You enter the NIGHTSHIFT FORMULA TUNER by selecting it from the FORMULAS menu. You’ll see a screen similar to Figure 8.130:

The NIGHTSHIFT FORMULA TUNER window displays all formulas sorted by method, Best ATS, Best OU, or Best SUR rating on the left side of the window. You can change Tune Method that NightShift will use using the dropdown list in the upper left of the window.
To select formulas to tune, highlight the formula name(s) and click ADD. The list on the right side of the screen always displays the formulas that will be tuned by NightShift. To remove a formula, highlight the formula name and click REMOVE. To save time, you can also load an entire consensus group of formulas at once by clicking on the large button labeled LOAD CONSENSUS GROUP.
At the bottom of the window, NightShift lets you select when to stop tuning each formula. All 3 limits apply, and NightShift will stop when the first limit is reached. The limits are:
The number of tries to attempt
A time limit in minutes for each formula
A minimum number of net units or straight up percentage (depending on the method selected)
NighShift also allows you to load a tuner parameter file (created with the Formula Tuner). This file selects the type of results you wish to tune. Formulas can be tuned to produce any combination of the following five parameters: the highest number of ATS units, the highest ATS percentage, the highest number of Totals Units, the highest Totals percentage, or the highest Straight-Up winning percentage. To load a tuner settings file, click the "Browse" button and select the file that you wish to use.
ATS Units - Tunes a formula to produce the highest number of against the spread net units
ATS Pct - Tunes a formula to produce the highest winning percentage against the spread
Totals Units - Tunes a formula to produce the highest number of net units against the totals line (over/unders)
Totals Pct - Tunes a formula to produce the highest winning percentage for over/unders
SU Pct - Tunes a formula to produce the highest percentage of straight-up winners
After selecting the formulas to tune and limits to use, click OK to start NightShift running. A window will be displayed with progress on how many formulas have been tuned, and the FORMULA TUNER window will show the results for each formula being worked on. You can stop the tuner at any time by clicking 'Stop Tuner' or 'Cancel' in the Formula Tuner Window if you want to exit NightShift.
By default, NightShift uses a 5 minute limit on each formula, but you can change the settings depending on how many formulas you want to tune and how long you want NightShift to run. For example, you might have 20 formulas to tune, and want to come back the next day to see how they look. Set the limit to 30 minutes, and 10 hours later WinPicks will have tuned all the formulas.
